Local Charities
Transit News supports local charities - we are very much a part of the Harrisburg community. We have selected four local organizations who share our profits and we promote as as we can. We urge you to support them as well.
Capital Area Greenbelt
The Capital Area Greenbelt is a 20-mile trail surrounding the City of Harrisburg that's perfect for dog walking, jogging, bike riding, or just getting out to appreciate the beauty of the region. The path goes through Riverfront Park, the Cameron Parkway, Paxtang Park, the Paxtang Parkway, Reservoir Park, the grounds of Harrisburg State Hospital, Wildwood Lake, and Harrisburg Area Community College. The Transit News webmaster, a daily walker on the Greenbelt, has seen hawks, owls, egrets, herons, many duck species, and dozens of songbird species along the trail, as well as a muskrat, raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, skunks, turtles, as many as nine deer at once, a red fox, a gray fox, weasels, voles, chipmunks, and a mother opossum with two youngsters on her back. Not bad for never leaving the city. For more information: http://www.caga.org.

The closest to Transit News is the Downtown branch at Front and Walnut Streets, overlooking the Susquehanna River in an historic building. Visitors can read newspapers, popular magazines, use the Internet, and browse a catalog rich with books, music, and video treasures. Membership is free - really the best deal around. Three Mile Island Alert
TMIA was actually organized and going strong more than a year before the infamous melt down in 1979. For all those years it has served as a watchdog for the people of central Pennsylvania--and the world--working to ensure the nuclear plant in our backyard is operated safely and advocating the development of alternative energy sources.
